Title: Veículos Automotores – uma Visão de Engenharia
Authors: Lauro C. Nicolazzi; Edison da Rosa; Longuinho da Costa M. Leal

Publisher: Orsa Maggiore
Edition:

Sinopse:

In this book, attention is paid to self-propelled land vehicles equipped with four wheels and rubber tyres, regardless of whether they are combustion or electric. Some of the concepts discussed can be applied in a relevant way to motorbikes, trains, tricycles and quadricycles, especially with regard to longitudinal and vertical dynamics.

The authors describe and present models of the operation of various subsystems considering the static, kinematic and dynamic behaviour of a four-wheeled vehicle and, at the same time, introduce the technical terminology of their operation, in order to standardise the technical language and facilitate the exchange of information between designers and developers of automobiles.

Text characteristics:

It is considered land motor vehicles equipped with four wheels and rubber tyres, regardless of whether they are combustion or electric.

  • The authors describe and present models of how various subsystems work:
  • Tyres – casing, loading, load capacity, trucks and buses;
  • Forces on the vehicle in motion – inertia, aerodynamics, lift;
  • Power transmission on the road;
  • Braking – axle loads, brake dive;
  • Power balance and performance diagrams;
  • Aerodynamic bodywork principles;
  • Steering and stability – on straights, in windy conditions. Mechanical elements.
  • Steering systems;
  • Flat suspensions – load dynamics, calculation examples;
  • Vertical dynamics – vehicle models with 1, 2, 4 or 7 degrees of freedom.
  • Independent suspension;

This book supports undergraduate engineering courses, especially mechanical engineering, as well as engineers and technicians in the automotive and auto parts industries.
