This work became necessary when the author started mentoring teams from the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, who were taking part in the AeroDesign competition organised by SAE Brasil. In addition to the initial difficulty of the UFSC Mechanical Engineering degree course not having a specialisation in Aeronautical Engineering, the lack of bibliographic material available for students to consult proved to be a critical point. Therefore, this text seeks to present the main aspects of aeronautical design in a comprehensive way, but without going into great theoretical depth, while also dedicating some space to the peculiarities that are specific to the competition, given the characteristics and limitations imposed by the regulations.

The text is divided into five parts, covering the main points:
Module 1
Organisational aspects and definition of the project, work plan, timetable.
Module 2
Aerodynamics concepts, two-dimensional flow, characteristics of a profile, boundary layer, aerodynamic resistance.
Module 3
Propulsion analysis, performance and stability in aeroplane flight.
Module 4
Introduces the concepts of aeronautical regulations and the criteria for structural design and testing.
Module 5
Presents the development of two pilot projects and proposed exercises, aimed at the immediate practical application of the topics covered. It presents a step-by-step roadmap for designing a model for the competition.
