The Mechanical Analysis and Design Group of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UFSC is active in teaching, research and extension and is made up of a team dedicated to the development and use of numerical mechanical simulation tools needed in the design and verification stages of mechanical systems.

 

The team’s areas of expertise include Computational Solid Mechanics: Mechanical Modelling, Numerical Methods – Finite Elements, Design Optimisation Techniques, Damage and Fatigue, Fracture Mechanics, Composite Materials, Structural Reliability, among others. The focus of the work is on the following aspects:

Development of simulation tools, their theoretical and numerical foundations to improve the analysis and resolution of complex problems;

Application of simulation techniques already mastered in design situations and design verification of real / industrial / multidisciplinary problems;

Experimentation by determining the mechanical properties of materials (elastic, viscoelastic, plastic, fatigue); experimental analysis of stresses by extensometry and development of transducers.
